Tony Jaa to be a movie director ? / More about Sword 05-02-2006

Matichon.co.th is reporting that Tony Jaa might be a movie director :

On an interview Prachya Pinkaew Producer and Movie Director of Sahamongkolfilm, Ltd. said beside the coming movie shot preparation given to Jaa Panom Yeeram, as this time this company agrees to let Jaa be movie director by working side by side with Panna Rittikrai on their own new action movie.

"It will be diferrent kind of actions with lots of excitement and still we don't know how he will make it on the next coming film, only Jaa knows best what he wants it to be like, can or can not be done" said Prachya.

Again Prachya said this directing job is what Jaa wanted all along due to his approaching age of 30, he doesn't know how long he can stay as an actor. According to his role models, Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee, they all directed their own movies.

"The truth is Ba-Ram-Ewe already had a plan for Jaa to do but not at this period and coincident with Jaa and Panna proposal to pursue this direction because no one know what the future will holds or how long can Jaa handle the acting job" said Prachya.

Also, Matichon.co.th has an update about Sword, the Dab Artamart project :

Prachya is confident in Dab Artamart with improved story line. “Right now we are in the preparation for Artamart movie” Pracha Pinkeaw, Top Director-Producer of Thai movies industrial mentions about his new movie project with more details in depths.

“As of now we are working on the movie scripts and I (Prachya Pinkaew) will be movie director and producer for this project with the help of P. Jik (Prapart Chonsaranon) as a co-producer to work on the movie scripts".

"This movie will be based on the historic war period, an action one with Jaa Panom Yeeram in the lead role and the unique thing about this film is the action sequence will base on the used of Thai double Saber (Dab Thai) in which Jaa already proficient. After the work on the movie scripts is finalized and done, we will focus on where to filled in all the actors and actresses in the story board and definitely Jaa will be the only leading role".

"The most important thing for us is to emphasis more in the drama and it will be a real challenging for Jaa because everyone knows his action skills but not his acting skills."

How much will the budget cost?

"For real it’s still too early to estimate and we already mentioned to Sia Jiang (Somsak Techaratanaprasert) that this movie would be monumental task and we would want it to be as big as HERO,CROUCHING TIGER & HIDDEN DRAGON. Sia Jiang acknowledged our desires and knew that It will cost a fortune to complete at the international level."

How confident are you in this project?

"Real confident! Especially in the scripts and story lines. We learned from previous movies and voices from the critics on our weak story line and so we improved the story line and real confident with the help of P. Jik (Prapart Chonsaranon)."

"We will start filming expectantly before the end of this year. At for the moment Sahamongolfilm already had 2-3 project lined up and one of them is mine but other is for Jaa to direct. Whichever project is ready, will be filming first and hopefully next year or year after you would get to see it in the theater."

Many thanks to Archanai_kj for the news and the translations!
