Hanuman : next Tony Jaa's project
Two months ago we revealed that Hanuman was one of Tony Jaa's next film project. Sia Jiang, or Somsak Techaratanaprasert, the owner of Sahamongkol Film (producer of Ong-Bak and Tom Yum Goong) has confirmed in an interview with Manager.co.th that they have already prepared another big budget for Tony Jaa.
This fantasy movie will relate the story of Hanuman (a monkey God) and will be directed by Rachane Limtrakoon (Killer Tatoo). They expect the film to be released in 2009 and they planned for Tony to play one film per year.
Here is a translation of the interview (many thanks to Charro!) :
"We already have the script of this movie. When Rachane came to me and proposed this project, I thought it is not bad at all. Its a fantasy movie that not many people have done before. And Rachane is also the one who can do well in terms of plot. So there shouldnt be any problem".
"I will put Jaa for this movie. I plan for him to play one movie per year. This is not too much and wouldnt make the audience feel bored of seeing him. Furthermore, we already did Ong Bak and Tom Yum Goong which were the films that showed the art of Muay Thai. This time I want Jaa to go further by getting a different character".
Have you ever thought that the audience might not accept the change of Jaas image from an action hero to Hanumarn?
"Now, in terms of acting, Jaa has been able to imagine himself in more different roles. We do not intend to completely change him. The film Hanumarn will still maintain some gestures and actions which I think can also combine martial arts. I believe that the real fans of Jaa should be happy with a new character of him".
This seems to be an ongoing intention to push Jaa Phanom to go international.
"Just like what I used to say, Jaa must be famous and do well abroad with his personality and character that can please international audience. He is gifted and has a long and bright future. Although he will only have one film per year, most of those films will be a big project. Hanumarn itself is a high-budget movie, maybe even bigger budget than Tom Yum Goong".
So now Jaa has finally become your beloved son?
"We do support talented people. All actors in my company, if they are talented and outstanding, we will of course support them. We work together and we wont take advantage of them".
