In this box, I have a translation of this news which is based on the Thai news content written is this link of gossipstar.mthai.com;
http://gossipstar.mthai.com/news_%E0%B8%88...81_2_16337.html However, there are other parts of this news from the conference appear in other news websites. I will select those parts especially the important ones, and do a translation later. --------------- Tony Jaa: “Ong Bak 2 Won’t Fail!!” From the first episode of Ong Bak that brings him lots of fame worldwide, now Tony Jaa returns to show his flicks of Muay Thai mixed up with other martial arts in Ong Bak 2 that marks his directorial debut as well. He is proud and confident that it will be a huge success!!. On 11th November 2008, a press conference on the opening of Ong Bak 2 is held by Sahamongkol Film at Joe Louis Theater, Bangkok. Sia Jieang - Somsak Techaratanaprasert, Prachya Pinkaew (Producer), Panna Rittikrai (Producer), and the new face director Tony Jaa are there at the conference. Jaa reveals his feeling about his directorial debut Ong Bak 2 that is about to premiere in Thailand this December 5th. Tony Jaa: “I feel so much better and excited in the same time because the movie is a month away to be screened in cinemas. I see myself gaining lots of development both in fighting and acting. This is because I pursued learning more of them and consulted many people who were behind the camera. Things were a bit not so smooth at the start, but really smooth after that because I always had the support of these two brothers of mine (Panna and Prachya)." What is the difference between Ong Bak 1 and Ong Bak 2 ? Tony Jaa: “As I am the director, I want to offer new things that are different from the universal character of action movies. The old character of fightings repeats in Ong Bak 1 and Tom-Yum-Goong (The Protector). But in Ong Bak 2, fightings are deeply involved by the story which is about the origin of the meaning of Ong Bak (scar-faced Buddha statue). I want it to be a period movie because it is a new thing for me. My look and my character are new either because my character, Tien, has some thing so deep inside his heart." “Action scenes are new either. After I watched actions of fighters in Chinese style of martial art movies, I’d like to see my own new Thai style of action that combines several techniques mixed with Khon Dance, not just a simple style of Muay Thai or Kung Fu. Therefore, the movie must be a period one in order that I can tell about history of Khon” How do you feel to direct a lot of competent actors ? Tony Jaa: “They are really professional in acting experience. I felt nervous in the beginning. But I feel so relieved later after I communicate with them, for me to let them know what I want and to know what they want as well. This is a new thing for me either.” How high is your expectation for your directorial debut ? Tony Jaa: “I want Thai people to love this movie and to get something from it. About my expectation for profit, I don’t know whether it will make a bunch of money like Ong Bak 1. I hope that it will do. Anyway, I’m already satisfied with what I do. To know that I already bring out the best in me is enough for me.” How much is your confidence in international markets especially those who canceled the pre-buy contracts ? Tony Jaa: “Maybe it is because they don’t watch the whole movie yet. If they do, they will find it interesting. From my experience when I went on tours to promote movies aboard, I could see what really was the point of martial arts that aroused their interest. I found that many movies depicting Eastern cultures could interest Hollywood and other foreigners. And what is brand new in Ong Bak 2 that I really want them to see is Nattayut (Dancing Fights) that I create by mixing Muay Thai with Khon Dance.” Prachya Pinkaew adds: “I think they had to do things as said in the contract. Our project did not complete within the expected time, so they canceled it. However, I think, as Tony says, they are still interested in the movie, and they may want to contact us to make a deal after they watch this movie in Thailand on December 5th.” After Ong Bak 2, will you do a next movie ? Tony Jaa: “I love movie, so I’d love to do it again. I already told Sia Jieang: ‘Sir, please.., I would like to make a movie’, (and Tony laughs).” Do you think you can prove yourself to those who look down on you as a new face director ? Tony Jaa: “I don’t care that much about it. I think I must prove it to myself first, and it will prove itself to anyone else later” Prachya Pinkaew adds: “He can prove himself that he is finally able to finish all the production, and audience will judge it later.” Panna Rittikrai adds: “Tony Jaa has had a great development. Some of my heroes are old or already dead. I always want to find substitutes for them. I could find one in Ong Bak 1, and that one was Tony Jaa. Again, I want to see who is able to be a substitute for him. Finally, I find that new guy which is Tony Jaa himself. What he has done in this movie is so perfect.” Will you two return to make a movie again some time in the future ? Tony Jaa: “Yes, I will. If there is a good play, we will have a talk. We have worked together, and we will.” Prachya Pinkaew: “We will still work together because he is still under contract of Sahamongkol Film. Tony Jaa is a competent action actor who never stops developing himself. I mostly stand behind the camera but Tony is mostly in front of it. However, what appears in front of the camera is more important.” More Pictures: Credit: manager.co.th / daradaily.com ![]() Tony Jaa performs his new flick 'Nattayut'. ![]() ![]() Tony Jaa, Sia Jieang, and Prachya Pinkaew.
