Finally, I gone to the premiere of "Banlieue 13" today in my town.
There were Luc Besson and all the actors

I think this movie must be seen but we can't compare it with Ong Bak. They are not so much fight scenes but a lot of actions.

See it if you could 04_wink.gif

Just watch this. The chase sequence in the beginning is awesome. David Belle and the guy from KOD show off some impressive stunts. ITs pure skills and talent, no cg or wires to enhance their physical ability. There were some interesting fight scenes but its short.

At the end of the movie, there's a fight scene of David and Cyril against a giant;this guy looks like the giant of 'Danny the dog';Danny had to fight him but the giant guy says "no thank you I give up "; do you know if it's the same guy ?

By the way, I'll get the DVD when its released

That's what I'm wondering too. I'm sure it's the same guy in DTD and B13. There are not a lot of men like him hehe.
I will buy the dvd too but have you any idea of its released date ? Maybe april...
andy
After seing the clip about the tattoed guy I thought it was an interesting flick, so I ordered it. The blonde guy is even better, I forgot his name. I'll love to see Tony Jaa and this guy do some fighting together! What any other actors you think are a good match for Tony Jaa, besides Jackie and Jet Li?
Sawatdee
Andy, that's good if you bought Banlieue 13 !
The blonde guy is a french man called Cyril Raffelli, he was a word champion of kung fu and is very talented. The other man is David Belle 32_icon_mrg.gif Actually he doesn't practice martial arts but is the foundator of the "parkour".

I'd love to see both of them in a film with Tony Jaa. There could be a very good chase scene between David Belle and Tony Jaa (like the market chase in Ong-Bak). Would be great !!!

CoolCat, I'll answer to you here. I don't practice parkour, I content myself with looking at men practising 32_icon_mrg.gif 13_naughty.gif

A very good review of Banlieue 13 found on twitchfilm.net . Everybody, you have to see this film 011_happy.gif

QUOTE

A sequel has been discussed
Raffaeli has more than 60 films to his credit
Absolutely zero wires in the film, which means all those painful looking falls really happened
Belle had zero background in either martial arts or gymnastics before creating parkour
Raffaeli trained Belle, partially in Thailand, for two years to prepare for the film

What is there to say about this film that hasn’t been said here before? The first in what will surely be many starring roles for David Belle and Cyril Raffaelli, Banlieue 13 is a near future actionioner built around the unique and dazzling physical abilities of its two stars. How unique? Well, Belle is the founder of an entirely new extreme sport known as parkour.

Owing an obvious debt to Escape From New York , Banlieue 13 is set in a hypothetical Paris in 2010. Crime has spiraled so out of control that the government has entirely given up on certain neighborhoods and walled them in, content to let lawlessness reign there as long as it is contained and cannot spill over to Paris proper. In the worst of these areas, Banlieue 13, a vigilante name Leito (David Belle) has been fighting a long battle against the forces of Taha, a criminal overlord so powerful he can field a virtual army. When Leito succeeds in capturing Taha and bringing him to the border police he is betrayed by them: not only do they refuse to take Taha in, fearing violent reprisal from the mob outside their door, but they imprison Leito and give Taha Leito’s sister.

Cut forward a few months and we meet the other half of this buddy equation, idealistic young cop Damien (Rafaelli), a martial arts expert who specializes in deep cover infiltration. Following a successful mission Damien is hauled before his superiors and given his most dangerous mission. An experimental neutron bomb has been hijacked and taken to Banlieue 13 where it is in Taha’s hands. Making matters worse the bomb had a booby trap trigger sequence – once the case was opened it would begin a countdown to explode in only twenty four hours. Taha has, of course, already opened the case. Damien must recruit Leito as a guide and infiltrate the neighborhood to defuse the bomb before time runs out.

Banlieue 13 is, quite simply a ride. Don’t go looking for a lot of depth, but for high energy, stylish action it’s hard to beat. Yes, it is rather front loaded on the action but the action is quite simply stunning. Belle and Rafaelli both get lengthy early sequences to stru their stuff and strut they do. Rafaelli has squared off on screen against Jet Li in the past without looking out of place and here he gets to show the full extent of his skills, leaping, kicking and flipping his way through an angry mob of gun wielding criminals. Belles intro is even more impressive as he leads a mob of angry gangsters on a merry chase over, under, beside and trhough a series of high rise buildings. And I’m not kidding about that at all … Belle’s particular discipline is a mixture of free climbing, acrobatics, and a willingness to fling yourself bodily from rooftop to rooftop. You have never seen anyone quite like him before.

Banlieue succeeds were earlier parkour themed films Yamakasi and Les Fils Du Vent fell flat for a number of reasons. First, they found a believable scenario to fully exploit Belle’s unique talents. Second, Belle and Rafaelli both are blessed with natural charisma and screen presence to match their impressive physical skills. Third, their skills are simply stunning – there are no wires are digital effects used to augment the action sequences whatsoever – and, having trained together for years, the pair work together with startling precision. And fourth, the supporting cast is uniformly strong, particularly the villainous Taha, played with scene chewing abandon by one of the film’s screen writers and his chief henchman K2 who strikes a near perfect balance of physical menace, blustering humor and oafish charm.

When we think martial arts films we tend to think only of Asia. If Rafaelli and Belle have anything to say about that we will soon be looking to France with increasing regularity.

Banlieue 13 will be released in North America during spring 2006 !

QUOTE
Magnolia Pictures has bought North American rights to French sci-fi actioner "Banlieue 13" (District 13), written by Gallic producer-scribe Luc Besson and directed by Pierre Morel.

Pic stars Cyril Raffaelli and David Belle, co-founder of the real-life Parkour freestyle athletics movement, whereby elements of martial arts, running, gymnastics and dance are employed to navigate dangerous obstacle courses as quickly and fluidly as possible.

Magnolia, the theatrical distribution arm of Todd Wagner and Mark CubanMark Cuban's 2929 Entertainment2929 Entertainment, is planning a spring release.

"District 13," which made its North American preempreem in the Toronto Film Festival's Midnight Madness section, is set in the ghettos of Paris circa 2010 and follows an undercover cop and a former hood as they try to infiltrate a gang's militia and defuse a neutron bomb.

Film made a strong showing in France, drawing nearly 1 million admissions.

"This film will be a complete revelation for action fans," said Magnolia prexyprexy Eamonn Bowles, adding that Belle and Raffaelli pull off some of the "most amazing stunts I've ever seen."

Besson's producer-writer credits include "The Transporter." Morel was the cinematographer on that film.

Its quite a simple 'must' for me this movie is, I've been a LONG time fan of David Belle. (He inspired me to do Parkour myself) So as you might guess...I am wanting to see this.

HOWEVER. Could anyone point me in advice as to how to get a UK compatible DVD with reliable English subs?
Sawatdee
Hello Retro Sicotte, I'm not sure but I think the film wasn't released in UK or USA yet. Anyway the film was released in Thailand with english subtitles. You can find it here. Hope it helps!
Retro Sicotte
Thank you indeed Mr. Admin. ;)

I'm guessing that you recommending that site confirms it's reliable. So I'll log in and have a look-see.

Oh good Gods, I'm already addicted to www.hongkonglegends.co.uk another site like them would have my wallet murdering me in my sleep!

I enjoyd this movie, really. It had really good story and the action was cool... but too little of it. They focused too little on the parkour. I would want to see more stunts and jumping from the movie. It feels like the scene in the beginning with David Belle was there just so that his fans wouldn't f@ck the place up when they left the cinema :)

Still, it was a great movie with awesome acting storyline and everything but I expected something else. I'm a fan of David Belle and I really wanted to se more parkour from his side.
Sawatdee
I agree with you, I thought there'd have been more parkour in the film. Maybe they'll shoot the sequel so hopefully there'll be more parkour.
shador
No, the movie had a pretty good ending. A sequel would kinda ruin the story. But I certainly hope that David Belle will continue showing his art to us in new future movies.

I'll check IMDB.com and see if he has any projects running now ;)
Retro Sicotte
Seems its almost here!

From www.urbanfreeflow.net

"Last week we attended a private screening of the District 13 film featuring David Belle and Cyril Raffaelli. On Tuesday the 11th of April at 6.30pm in Central London, there will be another screening SIX weeks ahead of its official cinema release. We'll be there again and have 2 exclusive tickets available to give away. Tickets won by forum member - Hadarrim."

And a week back (I cant find the archive now) it did give a release date, but its easy to work it out from that quote anyway.

Full UK cinema release? YES PLEASE!

However, if they dub it or change the music...heads will roll.
