Here's the translation, at last !!! I hope there won't be too much mistakes so if somebody wants to correct something, you can !!
He's back. Even stronger ! After the world success of "Ong Bak", Tony Jaa is going to appear again on the french screens in "L'honneur du dragon". Even more impressive than "Ong Bak", "Tom-Yum-Goong" will sure be a great success when it will be released on 8th February. We met the Thai star when he was in Paris at the end of September.
Marignan Hotel, Paris 8ème, one of the healthiest area of Paris. Tony Jaa has arrived yesterday with his stuntmen team. During two days, he will make several interviews and photoshots. Karaté Bushido, he knows well. We went to see him in Thailand and we met him last year in Paris… He sees us again with pleasure. During 45 minutes, we had a questions/answers game thanks to a French-thai interpreter. Because the star still speaks only in his native language. Does it slow his world popularity ? Contrary to the others, not at all.
After the phenomenal success of “Ong Bak” (1 million of spectators in France, record of spectators in Asia…) Tony Jaa has become an international phenomenon, considered as the successor of big stars like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li and the friend Jean-Claude, Van Damme of course. Tony talked with kindness and humility about his new film, in which he is the choreographer of the fighting scenes with Panna Rittihkrai, talked about his life, his practice of martial arts…
Karaté Bushido : What did you do since the release of “Ong Bak” and your visit in France 1 ½ year ago ?I kept on promoting “Ong Bak”, notably in the USA. I’m happy cause the film was ranked 17th in the American box-office and that’s an excellent performance for a thai film. Then I shot “L’honneur du dragon” (= Tom-Yum-Goong in French) so I stayed long in Australia.
Karaté Bushido : Did the success of “Ong Bak” really change your life ?
Tony Jaa : Yes, a lot. I have lost my private life and I have a lot of work with shootings, promoting and training. Financially, it’s really better. I have a car, a house and I can help my parents. But now in Bangkok, I can’t go out normally. Everybody recognizes me and ties me up. When I go to the restaurant, I have to hide myself behind a hat and glasses. But it’s not always enough so I go out more and more rarely.
Karaté Bushido : Fighting scenes in “TYG” are both different and more intense than in “Ong Bak”. As the choreographer of the fights, can you explain the logic…
Tony Jaa : They are different from the ones in “Ong Bak” but they still are the result of my experience. I used and adapted some movements, I learnt some others. I asked some Muay Thai masters for advice. Since hardly two years, I spent a lot of time imagining and thinking about those fighting scenes to make them the more credible as possible. And, I think, the more artistic, the more cinematographic. For me, they are more beautiful, more artistic, less violent, with more research.
Karaté Bushido : Did you train in a particular way for this film ?
Tony Jaa : Before the shooting, I trained 8 hours a day. During the shootings and promotion, I trained really less. My training is especially building new and more credible movements.
Karaté Bushido : During the shooting of “Ong Bak”, you hurt yourself two times. How was it during “TYG” ?
Tony Jaa : There were very dangerous scenes, so, logically, I had some little problems : a torn muscle, a twisted ankle but I didn’t had to go to the hospital and I’m still alive, thanks God (laughing). And, except the baby elephant that often sulked and gave us headaches, nothing happened in particular.
Karaté Bushido : If you had to use Muay Thai in the street, would you use the movements of the film ?
Tony Jaa (laughing) : In a film, we especially use the technical side of the martial art and we know what the opponent is going to do. In the real life, we never know. Actually, if I should protect my life in the street, I would attack the weak points : eyes, nose, Adam’s Apple, genitals, temples, fontanel (edge of the head). But believe me, I would do anything to avoid the fight. My advice to be a good fighter is to be concentrated, being aware of our acts, not to panic, and stay calm.
Karaté Bushido : You have practised several martial arts (Taekwondo, stick, sabre) what differences do you find between those practises ? What did they brought to you ?
Tony Jaa : I learn and always search for the same thing in Martial Arts : the natural movement, the root of a movement. I use this analyse as the source of a fight. With it Ican imagine and think about fighting scenes. The sabre and the Muay have close links. The base of the Muay movements come from the sabre. Moreover, in Muay Boran, we use two sabres. If we lose it, the wrist and forearm become the sabres and can be used like it.
Karaté Bushido : In a scene, we quickly see Jackie Chan. Did you call him or was it him who called you ?
Tony Jaa (laughing) : Are you sure that’s Jackie Chan ? Actually not. I wanted to make a surprise to the spectators. It’s a joke. It’s not he real one. That works, doesn’t it ?
Karaté Bushido : Will there be a “Ong Bak 2” ?
Tony Jaa : That’s too early for me to answer. Concerning my projects, I let the surprise to the spectators.
Translation of the little article at the bottom of the page
--- When two stars meet each other ---
The visit in Paris of Tony Jaa was the occasion for a particular meeting. Seydina Baldé, the International Karaté star, triple world champion by team, double vice-world champion and Tony Jaa, international cinema star since “Ong Bak” warmly congratulated each other. The French developing some projects for the cinema, as an actor (he shot with Jet Li) and as a producer, he may one day be associated to the thai star for a super martial production ? A story to follow…

Thank you for the translation! The part that intrigued me the most was when Tony Jaa said that he had to use eye glasses and a hat to conceal his identity while going to a restaurant. I remember the days when Michael Jackson had done the samething when he ate at a restaurant. Except that he wore a rain coat, scarf, with the glasses, and hat of course. Hahahahah next time in Thailand I ought to look out for anybody wearing sunglasses and a hat while in a restaurant. It could be Tony Jaa undercover!

Thanks to everybody

!! If ever there was another translation like this one to do I would be happy to do it ! Its my way to help a little Sawatdee that does so much for us

!
I agree with you Thawan Daeng ! I'm happy Tony has a time to give to his french fans !!!!
Reading that, I find celebrity a little bit frightening

! Losing your private life, not be able to go out when you want... that's why I always promised myself not to bother a "star" if ever one day I see one in the street ! But will I manage ?
Have a nice day !
