Full Version: Tom Yum Goong = Spirit Of Kings?
TonyJaa.org Forum > Tony Jaa on screen > Tom Yum Goong
John
Hi guys,

I don't know if this is common knowledge, but it appears that Tom Yum Goong will undergo a title change before its release in the UK this summer. The new title is apparently 'Spirit of Kings' and will be premiered at the Seni06 Film Festival which runs from Saturday 6 - Sunday 7 May 2006.

Maybe there has been some misunderstanding somewhere along the line, as they didn't change 'Ong Bak''s title upon release, and 'Tom Yum Goong' has kept its original title in all of the countries it has been released in.

Anyway, I hope they keep it the same, but who knows.

"Headlining the Festival, Seni is proud to announce the UK 's first official screening of “Spirit of Kings” starring Tony Jaa of the highly acclaimed movie Ong Bak." - Seni06 Web Site.

"Seni06 Film Festival in association with the Contender Entertainment Group proudly announces a one off screening of the hugely anticipated Spirit of Kings; the follow up to Tony Jaa’s highly acclaimed Ong-Bak, which will hit cinemas this summer." - Seni06 Newsletter

hehe faster than me! I was about to post the news 02_biggrin.gif

So Tom Yum Goong will be called "Spirit of the Kings" in UK and will be released on July 28, 2006 (and not in March)... The DVD might be released in september/october.

Thanks for the info about the festival!

How annoying?!!! Just over a month left until it was supposed to come out and now it's been put back and with a silly name change that has nothing to do with the film. Why was this stupid decision made? I'm really annoyed by this!

My friend who was also eagerly waiting for this has now said he's going to illegally download it (but will buy the DVD when it comes out). I'm sure many other people will do this too. I will reluctantly wait to see it in the cinema, even though it deserves to be pirated after this ridiculous delay.
Sawatdee
It's sad that people have to wait such a long time for the film, but I hope everybody will support Tony Jaa's work by seeing the film in cinema. Hopefully the next film will be released sooner.
Field Master
Hi Sawatdee. I know, it is very annoying. We could have bought the Thai version or downloaded it ages ago but we decided to wait and watch it in the cinema and this is how we are rewarded. The movie industry blames other people for piracy but really they only have themselves to blame when they do stupid things like this.

Do you know the reason for this delay? One thing we can hope for is that, now that it has an English name, it will be more widely accepted and promoted in the UK. Ong-Bak was largely ignored in UK cinemas.

By the way, that was me who posted above. I didn't realise I wasn't logged in.

Im just happy tony will be coming to the u.k this year .Its a shame it will be held in birmingham ,as i live about 200 miles away if it means seeing tony jaa i will walk 02_biggrin.gif .Im planning on making a huge banner and take it to the premier ,to show him how much we love him here.If it is ok with you sawatdee i would like to write "From all the fans at tonyjaa.org we love you no matter what"Im serious about it so i would like your permission. 02_biggrin.gif .I think the new name is pretty cool.
Field Master
What?! Tony Jaa is coming to Birmingham for the premiere? Is this confirmed? If this is true, I will go too. That will also mean the delay won't be so long.

muay_plam, whereabouts do you live?
Sawatdee
Hi Field Master, unfortunalety I don't know the reason of the delay.

muay_plam, sure you have my permission but we don't know yet if Tony Jaa will be present for the premiere, it's much too early.
muay_plam
22_weep.gif oops i was getting carried away i just asumed he would be present but i forgot that they will be filming the next movie at that time probably.Field master i am from newcastle, how about you?

This is a good day for me as I managed to beat Sawatdee in posting news! It will probably never happen again, so I think I deserve a gold star! 02_biggrin.gif

In regards to Tony attending the premiere, I think it is very unlikely. According to the Seni06 newsletter the celebrity line up includes Gordon Liu, John Saxon and Danny Jon Jules, but no mention of any stars from Tom Yum Goong.
Field Master
Why won't he come to the UK? He's visited pretty much every other country.
muay_plam
yes but what is a premiere without the star?
Field Master
Exactly. Although he's not a household name in the UK like Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee are.

I'm from West Yorkshire.

And I was all worked up to see it on March 24th...damn. This name change also kinda miffs me a little.

Oh well...I guess Banlieue 13 will have to see me through till then...

I was just checking out the Seni06 Film Festival web site again, and they have a new poster up advertising the premiere of 'Tom Yum Goong'. However, they are now calling it 'Warrior King'!

What's going on? Maybe this is just fan art and not an official poster. I hope it is, as it's really annoying that the name has been changed for the UK in the first place, let alone changing it again!

What do you guys think?

hi john ,The name change doesnt really bother me,that poster looks too official to be fan art.If it is fan art whoever did it is very tallented!

I dont know why they changed the name but i think i know why its taking so long for us in the uk to get it.They are probably doing a rescore of the soundtrack just like they did with ong bak and are probably getting as much special features as they can for the second disc .Which is a good thing cause i loved the new soundtrack on ong bak its a tribute to the original thai soundtrack.

At the end of the day they are just trying to add better quality to the movies at premier asia,Which is a good thing cause the uk ended up getting ong bak last, but we got the best dvd so i dont care what they call it as long as it is just as good as the ong bak dvd.

Thanks for the info mate!!

This is what i would have for the dvd cover,i so want the poster of this.
John
Hi Muay Palm, yeah that pic would make an awesome DVD cover. I thought the Thai DVD cover could have been much better. Your right we were lucky enough to get the best Ong Bak DVD over here. Hopefully the same will be true when they release Tom Yum Goong/Spirit of the Kings/Warrior King or whatever they decide to call it.

Has anyone else heard any more news on this new name change? I was hoping Sawatdee would have some info.
Sawatdee
I had confirmation that Warrior King will definitely be the title in UK.
John
Thanks Sawatdee! I knew you would have the answer!
Saosin
Warrior King is a TERRIBLE name and will probably put people off seeing it. God help us.
John
At least 'Tom Yum Goong' sounds exotic and interesting, whereas 'Warrior King' sounds like a poor B-Movie that should go straight to DVD.

Oh well, the important thing is that it’s getting a cinematic release over here. Can’t wait to see it on the big screen!
