I never really understood it. Why was there a giant head resembling the Ong-Bak head? Were they carving a giant head out or what?

kickboxer, it wasn't a giant head resembling the ong bak head. it was a giant statue of the buddha; just like the ong bak statue is a statue of the buddha. the villagers of nong pradu called it "ong bak" because that particular buddha statue has a cut on the face.
scar, are you sure don hid gold in the giant buddha head? i thought the gold was original to the statue. i thought that the gold was always in the statue, and the stone covered it up to hide it for hundreds of years.

Yes, the giant statue was originally made entirely of gold. But hundreds of years ago when the Burmese invaded Ayutthaya(spell?) the Thai people covered up most of the statues that were made of gold to make them look worthless to prevent the Burmese from melting them. Some are still covered up to this day.

Yeah, I remembered the gold piece figure looks like a statue figure too ... So it takes me 1 years to understand it clearly ... er ... not too long right ?
And I think I should have said "giant Buddha head", sorry !!!
