I've always wondered, if there was a martial artist who was also a bodybuilder (a major bodybuilder, ex. Anders Graneheim or Arnold Schwarzenegger), do you think that he would still be good?

I mean, it would depend on his technique, skills, etc. right? Do you think its possible that a martial artist with a body like Arnold (in his prime) would be able to still execute techniques properly? He could be very slow because of all the weight he has, but he could work hard at it and become super fast and learn how to execute moves fast and still bodybuild. It is possible, but do you think it is likely?

I think that regardless of how much of a pumped up beast that guy is, he can still be fast and a good martial artist because even bodybuilders do cardio like running, jogging, etc.

sifu donald hamby is a giganticly muscular man, and teaches traditional southern chinese kung fu. same style as me, but different lineage. very different from the way i play it, obviously because he's 4x bigger than me. check out his videos.

I think it's unlikely that a man of Arnold's size could become 'super fast' as a martial artist. Though you don't have to be fast to be considered a good martial artist. He just need to work hard on other areas, like strength and technique, to make up for his inferior speed. You can't just ask a heavy guy to be fast, cause nobody is perfect.

Oh, but I believe that it is possible to become as fast as any lean martial artist, but it may take lots of time and practise to achieve this because of the condition the bulky martial artist is in. Yeah, speed isn't everything but it is a good thing in martial arts.

Bolo Yeung was a body builder AND weighlifter.

Oh darn I forgot about Bolo! He's a bodybuilder too! And I have seen in his movies that he is fast!

There is also Jean Claude Van Damme who is really cut and somewhat bulky, but he is quick.

I guess that it IS possible for a martial artist of Bolo and Van Damme to be quick and skillful despite their bodies. But it would take a more bulkier martial artist (just imagine someone like Bobby Lashley, Nathan Jones, etc.) to become speedy (despite that wrestling is a martial art that has existed for a long time).
