i finally got a chance to watch Dan Chupong's lastest movie - Kon Fai Bin คนไฟบิน (previously titled TabanFai).

right off the bat, if any one out there can understand thai but can't read (or reads very slowly like me) this movie might be a little tough to grasp. it's filmed entirely in the isaan dialect (or in the case of a certain character, a speech impediment) with thai subtitles. because i already knew the story and i could make out a fair amount of the dialogue, i was ok. however, i'm quite certain that i didn't get some of the finer points. sure i could have paused the movie to read the thai subtitles, but that would have entirely ruined the flow of the movie.

for info about the story, check out the info in this thread and the press release.

my opinions on the film: it's a blast (pun intended). it's great fun to watch, the stunts are cool, the f/x are cool, the fighting is cool. this movie is more about fantasy combat than realistic fighting (which i normally don't like much) but i really enjoy it in this movie because it really is so much FUN!! there's a lot of realistic fighting mixed in with the fantasy fighting, and as usual with dan's work there's a lot of stuntwork involved in the fighting.

i do have a few complaints: some of the camera work is too tight so we don't get to see the fighting clearly. there's not quite enough dialogue from dan; he has a really strong screen presence and he's a pretty good actor. in some of the stunts it's hard to see faces, so we're not sure if it's really dan or a stuntman.

one last thing to say: for me, the highlight of the movie is the fight scene between dan and his mentor, the living legend panna ritikrai !! it's not the best fight scene ever made or anything; it's just really cool to see dan vs panna !

i highly recommend this movie! even if you don't speak thai or isaan, it's a blast!

Thanks, anurak for the information. 02_biggrin.gif
I also like all of the action parts in this movie, they all look terrific. 0483.gif
Dan Chupong did it great again! 01_smile.gif
In Thailand there is its release in VCD and DVD format already.

And what surprises me much is that in some parts of romantic love with a beautiful girl, Dan can play them very well. 32_icon_mrg.gif In the play, he has to show his awkwardness when talking to a girl he has never met before. His awkwardness looks so real. 13_naughty.gif Here are some pictures;

The girl looks so pretty, so I can see why. 1e.gif

i agree 100% !!

that scene was a really cute scene in the movie. it works well because dan is a really good actor. in the movie he shows a range of emotions from anger to happiness to love to hate to sorrow, etc.

and the girl (Kanyaphak Suwannakud 27_in_love.gif ) is incredibly pretty! p'Thep can you give any information about her?

back to the movie: i think one area dan needs to work on is to slow down when he speaks. he looks so comfortable on camera, it seems like his acting is so natural that his words come out a little bit too easily. for film, tv, presentation etc he needs to speak a little more slowly. but aside from that, he is really good in front of the camera.

another thing about the movie: although the director, chalerm wongpin, did a great job with many of the scenes, i think the cinematography for the fight scenes could have been much better. i think an experienced action director like panna should have co-directed the fighting scenes so that they would show more full shots. like i said before, the camera work during the fight scenes was often too tight, making it difficult to see the techniques. as producer, prachya pinkaew should have done something about this.

anyway, i feel there are some technical flaws to this movie, but overall i think the movie is a great success and i really look forward to more movies from dan and the crew. this movie is so much fun; it's the kind of movie i can watch over and over again and not get bored!

I knew about this already, I just cannot wait, I loved born to fight, I thought there may be an advanced copy with english subs, oh well...guess I'll have to wait

I saw this movie with very poorly translated English subs. It's like someone translated word for word using an online dictionary, so it doesn't make much sense.

The first fight scene was awesome where he used only knees. A lot of the fighting where the people could "hit" you without actually coming in contact (fantasy fighting) was lame to me. I don't know maybe I'd like it better if I actually understood the freakin' story.

I bought the movie and I am going to watch it, for me it sounds really good and exiting.

When it commes to the fantasy fighting I like it, atleast I think I do.
If it is something like Kung-Fu hustle, evan thoug that is probably a very different movie, I'll like it.

Dan is a good actor from what I saw from born to fight, good movie. I think that that one had and started with alot of story then they faught later in the movie.

Thank you for the information about the movie!

Okay, Now I am back again and I have watched the movie and I tell you I thoguht it was great! In the begining of the movie I was thinking very much about how it is filmed and thought that some things happend to fast so you did not really understand who cut/hit who and so on.
I also was having a hard time understand who was in what side and who fought who, but later in the movie you understand more and things were comming to place.

I really enjoyed the movie, it was, as you said, a unrealistic movie but with some realistic fights too.
The first sceen that you see with Dan and the girl I laughed because of it being cute, then the secons seen where she fell I giggled XD Kind of embarissing but I was alone in my room at 01:00 AM so it was not a big problem.
Sometimes I am picky with small things that movies have, like a hack or if the sound commes beffore the scene, but I think that you all would agree on that part, this move did not have any of those problems. Maybe because it's not a copy and so on.
It only had a blur in a sceen that thay put there themselves. Well well, good movie ^^

The scenes with panna were good to! I liked to see him in this way!

I was very disappointed with this movie, I loved Born to fight, but I just couldn't get into this one. I'm not thai, so maybe I couldn't enjoy the thai comedy, but I do have the dvd with english subtitles. I hate special effects, I don't want to see people with super powers. The reason why we loved Born to fight was because the stunts were real, I felt like I was watching a chinese movie this time. There were only a few scenes that stood out.

I don't really know about that, I thought it was great anyways, I thought that he was cool and funny 02_biggrin.gif
Metgot_Mestisu
i have this on dvd so its got english subs and dub. i thought it was funny. not stephen chow funny, but still enjoyable. when i saw the first scene where he rides in on the rockets, i was like "thats *$^&$@^( crazy!" and i had to see what happend.

i do agreee that the cenimatography wasnt as good as it could be, but it was good enough to put in my collection.
