Hello all, this is my first visit to this webiste and this forum. Awesome website, it looks great, love it. Anyways, I live in the US and am dying to get my hands on the DVD for Ong-Bak since it never came to my town. Anyways, I don't trust ebay or Amazon to sell me a real legit DVD, so can anyone recommend where I can get a DVD with English subtitles so I can support Tony Jaa and his crew (instead of buying a crappy ripoff and supporting pirates)? Thanks all.

Oops, forgot to register, but I have done that now, if anyone can help me find a copy of the DVD Id greatly appreciate it. My Thai is a little on the weak side, so one with subtitles is necessary...thanks all.

www.yesasia.com/ and www.ethaicd.com have Ong Bak dvd's (different regions, you'll need an all region dvd player but I dunno if it has subs) and VCD's. The VCD's quality is pretty good, you should get that or just wait for it to come out on dvd in Canada and the U.S.A. for better quality.

hey ya'll i went to see ong back here smack dab in the middle of the u.s. *lol* but anyways there is a question i have, there was some significant shading or something in the cave scene when tony was fighting with the henchmen with the knives and it was kinda dark compared to my dvd copy, so whats up with that? just thought i'd find out if anyone noticed that when they have seen it in theaters lately?? 0359.gif

The theaters screening were really dark that's true. The picture quality is better is the dvd.
Not sure to have understand very well your question, sorry hehe blush2.gif.

hehehee it didn't matter about the shading anyways, the people i seen it with went pretty crazy over the movie anyways, i was watching peoples faces next too me and they were cringing at the hits the guys took when tony was elbowing them and kneeing them. *lol* it was pretty great 02_biggrin.gif

click here for the thread regarding differences in Ong Bak dvds.

there are currently no legit english-subtitled versions. official dvd's with english subtitles were never released so that the theatrical release wouldn't be easily overlooked in favor of a dvd. you really don't need to understand the dialogue in order to get a basic understanding of the movie. if you want to catch the nuances, then i guess you will need subs. i think some of the humor may be lost in translation though.

the vcd does indeed have lower picture quality and darker shading in the cave scenes. i tried watching the vcd on a 20' projection screen i have at the theater i work at, and it was pretty tough to see what was going on. the dvd (thai) was crystal clear; the cave scene was not too dark.

if you really feel like you need the english subtitles, i recommend you simply wait for the official english dvd. i know it's tough... in the meantime, pick up the vcd just so you can watch the action. worry about the plot later!
