Magnolia Takes “Ong Bak 2” for U.S.
by Brian Brooks

U.S. rights to Thai martial arts feature “Ong Bak 2” have been picked up by Magnolia Pictures. The sequel to “Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior,” directed by Tony Jaa, will be released via Magnolia’s genre label Magnet later this year. Tom Quinn, Senior Vice President of Magnolia negotiated the deal with Gilbert Lim of Sahamongkol Film International. “Ong Bak 3” is currently in production, and is slated for a December 2009 opening in Thailand.

“When we first saw the original ‘Ong Bak,’ after picking our jaws off the floor, we knew we wanted to be in the Tony Jaa business. It put us on the map as a home for the best in genre fare, and helped make our genre label Magnet possible,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles in a statement. “We’re beyond thrilled to be able to carry the franchise forward and continue our relationship with Tony, Sahamongkol, and the entire creative team involved.”

what a relief that there is gonna be a US release. tony jaa's reputation was like on the line when he left the set, and when he was losing money just because of some greedy family member who didn't care about anything but money. i hope now, nothing embarrassing like this ever happens to him again, because its something that the haters can poke at.

It's about time an American production company picked it up. Hopefully, we will be able to see it within the next couple of months. It shouldn't take too long to put a voice over on the movie. I think if the U.S. cuts any parts out, we will be able to see it on dvd as an uncut version.
